The Heritage Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon
This range of dolls was designed by Peggy Nisbet for the Heritage Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, in 1979, as part of the 400 year Shakespeare celebrations there.
The dolls were only sold at the Heritage Theatre, and as far as we know, only four were issued. They included the Nisbet favourites of King Henry VIII, His daughter, Queen Elizabeth I, The Earl of Leicester, and, (of course), the Bard himself, William Shakespeare.
Each of the dolls was distinguished by its own costume variations, and the introduction of new varants, (of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I in particular), may still be causing confusion amongst collectors! (We have removed Henry's cloak for two of the pictures below, so that collectors can see the full costume more clearly)
P/653 | King Henry VIII | |
P/680 | Queen Elizabeth I
P/681 | The Earl of Leicester
P/682 | William Shakespeare |
