P/1045 - The Statue of Liberty
Restoration Model
Issue quantity unknown - Doll only available in 1986
This striking Nisbet doll is commemorating the Centenary of the Ellis Island Immigration Establishment in New York Harbour. Made only during 1986, this doll showed the restored Statue of Liberty. Over time, exposure to the sea air had oxidised the copper metal of the monument, turning it green. Unfortunately, this prototype doll is missing her torch, which would have been Gold in colour, like her diadem, and her tablet or book, (held in her left hand). Her diadem and torch were made of cast metal, (the diadem is of soft metal), and plated to give a gilded effect
Nisbet also produced P/777 - an extremely rare version of the Statue of Liberty, in 1982, This model was verdigris green in colour, and showed this impressive symbol of National identity as she would have appeared prior to her restoration. This model never went into full production, and only appeared for a short time in the 1982 catalogue
